SeriesFest: Season two partners with Virgin produced for independent pilot competition

Virgin Produced to choose winning pilots to air on the Virgin Produced Channel 


Television and Content Festival to Take Place in Denver, CO from June 22–26, 2016


Denver, CO (June XX, 2016) – SeriesFest and Virgin Produced, the film and television production arm of Virgin group, have partnered to present the Virgin Produced Choice Award at the upcoming SeriesFest, the international television and content festival coming this June in Denver, CO.  The Award program will select up to eight pilots from SeriesFest’s Independent Pilot Competition across both the comedy and drama genres. The winning pilots will then find distribution via the Virgin Produced Channel onboard Virgin America, Virgin Australia and in Virgin Hotels.


This year, 34 official selections, which showcase programs by emerging and established creators and directors, will compete in the Independent Pilot Competition from Thursday, June 23rd to Saturday, June 25th at the Sie FilmCenter in Denver, CO. Talent featured in this year’s pilots include Brad Leland, Jane Lynch, Tim Matheson, Amber Nash, George R.R. Martin, Tahmoh Penikett, Missi Pyle, Maisie Williams and Michael K. Williams. In addition to the Virgin Produced Choice Award, all pilots will compete for ‘Best Pilot, 'Best Actor,’ ‘Best Actress,’ ‘Best Director,’ ‘Best Writer’ in the categories of Drama and Comedy, along with the illustrious ‘Audience Award,’

SeriesFest kicks off Wednesday, June 22 at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre with an Opening Night special performance by Grammy and Golden Globe® nominee Sia and the North American Premiere of BBC AMERICA’s The Hunt presented by Emmy Award® winners Alastair Fothergill and Huw Cordey. 


The primary screening venue will be at the Sie FilmCenter, which is the year-round cinematic home of SeriesFest’s partner organization, Denver Film Society. Denver Film Society is a nonprofit cultural institution that produces film events throughout the year, including the award-winning Denver Film Festival and the popular, summertime series Film on the Rocks.


SeriesFest will host special events including a sneak preview of PBS’ musical documentary American Epic followed by a discussion with writer and producer Allison McGourty, a sneak preview of TBS’ new comedy Search Party accompanied by a conversation with creators, directors and executive producers Sarah-Violet Bliss & Charles Rogers and Executive Producer Lilly Burns, a sneak of an upcoming Netflix Original Documentary Series, as well as a co-presentation with the Denver Film Society of Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You, a definitive chronicle of legendary television pioneer Norman Lear, featuring interviews with George Clooney and Rob Reiner. 


Previously announced panels include “Women in Media” with Kim Cattrall and Vanity Fair’s Krista Smith, A discussion with Emmy Award®-winners Alastair Fothergill and Huw Cordey about BBC AMERICA’s The Hunt, and “Anatomy of a Show” with FX’s The Strain’s creator Carlton Cuse and star Kevin Durand.


Additionally, this year’s festival will host an International Spotlight section showcasing programming from around the world including the UK, Italy, Israel, Belgium and more. Some of the featured titles include UK’s The Syndicate starring Lenny Henry (Othello, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Cara Theobold (Downton Abbey), Israel’s The Writer starring Yousef Sweid and Ruba Blal-Asfour, and a sneak preview of Sundance TV’s Gomorrah starring Marco D’Amore and Fortunato Cerlino. 


SeriesFest is also partnering with interactive technology pioneer Interlude to launch the 48-Hour Interactive Series Jam. This ambitious program aims to redefine the concept of digital storytelling in a two-day, intensive hackathon designed to inspire and create the next great interactive series.
