Rose McGowan is a writer/director/producer and former actress who knows Hollywood from the inside out and is determined to change the power structure through equality.
Her film, Dawn, was nominated for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and qualified for an Academy Award® in 2015. Dawn is available for viewing on YouTube because Rose wanted to promote art + thought. Helpful hint: Rose says that Dawn speaks for her taste and interests far more than any role she’s played in the past and hopes that submitted scripts are of that caliber.
The films that have most inspired me as a young girl and as a woman are those with strong female leads. Women who overcame, women who brought it, women who were as strong as women can be. Films like Silence of the Lambs, Thelma & Louise, Working Girl, Alien and Aliens, Winter’s Bone, Norma Rae, Silkwood, Paper Moon, Rosemary’s Baby, Repulsion, Gone With the Wind; these are just a few examples of films with dynamic female characters. They are complex characters with complex internal lives. Think about how much more interesting Silence of the Lambs was because it was a female character. That is what I want to see on my screen, and since it’s largely absent these days, I have decided to make these films myself through my company, Damage Inc. Productions.
Damage Inc. is looking for screenwriters. Writers who are interested in bringing substantial women to life via episodic storytelling. Any genre except slasher films or superhero series. Can be psychedelic, can be true to life, can be comedy, can be tragedy. Must be intelligent, smart, fierce and moving. Society is in dire need of voices that are not from within the Hollywood ecosystem. I know what’s available there, which is why I am looking for you and your writing talents.
If you’d like to be part of changing the system, if you’d like to see yourself or a better version of yourself on screen, please submit. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Let’s do this.
