2022 Jan Marino Scholarship Recipient

May 26, 2022

Congratulations to the Recipient of the 2022 Jan Marino Scholarship: Gwen Olge

Gwen Olge is a storyteller, screenwriter, academic, mother, and wife. She has a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism, was a NASA Fellow, and received an M.A.Ed. and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. She ran an educational consulting business for 12+ years followed by several years in academia. While being her own boss and raising three children, her lifeline became writing screenplays. Gwen found her voice championing protagonists who forge their own path, question the status quo, and expose the systems and constructs that stand in the way.

Gwen also has research and development interests in VR/AR/MR storytelling that focus on writing for interaction and immersion, and how this shapes the screenwriting and storyboarding process. Her latest article, “Screenwriting for New Film Mediums: Conceptualizing Visual Models for Interactive Storytelling,” is in the Journal of Screenwriting (2019).

Gwen was recently a Stowe Story Labs Fellowship Finalist for her original TV comedy pilot Research 1. Gwen is thrilled to pursue an MFA in TV and Screenwriting from Stephens College and is honored to have been selected to receive the Jan Marino Scholarship, which “nurtures the power of strong, independent female storytelling in television and film.”
