With the Cherokee Nation Film Office and Green Pastures Studios—For this season of The Storytellers Initiative, SeriesFest is searching for remarkable writers to give voice to the Native American experience in the next best TV pilot competition!
The Storytellers Initiative TV pilot competition seeks unproduced 30-minute sitcoms that have at least one Native American character and/or writer, represent an authentic Native American voice, and are accurate in Native American portrayals; scripts must be void of stereotypes traditionally associated with Native American peoples.

With Janelle Monáe’s Wonaland Pictures—SeriesFest is partnering with Janelle Monáe and Wondaland Pictures to discover episodic content featuring radical and rebellious stories. The script competition provides artists the opportunity to share diverse ideas through visual media and create groundbreaking television. The winning artist(s) will receive the opportunity for a development deal with Wondaland Pictures.

With Ed Helms & Michael Falbo’s Pacific Electric Picture Co.—The Storytellers Initiative aims to discover and celebrate bold new series with a strong point of view and bold characters from the next generation of storytellers. This Initiative cultivates lasting relationships between emerging creatives and industry executives, focused specifically on supporting diverse voices, championing marketable, unique storytelling, and pushing independent projects into production. Writers are invited to submit their pilot script for a chance to participate in a writers workshop, a live read of their script with professional actors, and a year-long development deal.

Since 2020, SeriesFest’s Executive Elevation Mentorship Program has fostered enriching connections between executive mentors and aspiring leaders—who are all people of color. The program aims to increase the diversity of leadership circles in the television industry by bringing together the most passionate leaders and rising stars to invest in a more equitable workplace.

Read the ArticleRandi Kleiner felt like an 8-year-old at her birthday party as she fretted inside the Sie FilmCenter. It was 2015, the opening year of the SeriesFest TV festival and, as with a birthday party, there was no guarantee people were going to show up.
” ‘Is anyone actually coming?’ ” the festival co-creator recalled wondering as she unlocked the doors at the theater on East Colfax Avenue. “I was anxious.”
Not only did people show up that first year, they’ve also continued to blow past her expectations. Now in its 10th year, the nonprofit SeriesFest draws more than 12,000 attendees annually and commands a $2.7 million budget. Kleiner expects attendance to grow by another 2,000 this year, based on current ticket sales for the public event.
