SERIESFEST ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE SEASON 5 INDEPENDENT PILOT COMPETITION & AWARDS RECIPIENTS

The mission of Young Storytellers is to inspire young people to discover the power of their voice. Using one-on-one mentorship, low-income and students of need learn how to write original stories and see them brought to life. Currently Young Storytellers serves more than 60 public schools in Los Angeles and New York City, reaching 1,200 students each year. SeriesFest will be bringing the program to Denver this spring. Fifth-grade students will write their own 5-page screenplay and see it performed by actors at The Big Show.

As part of our ongoing commitment to support and inspire the work of female directors and creators, we are proud to announce the expansion of our “Featuring Women” platform through a new mentorship initiative with Shondaland, the prolific storytelling company founded by Shonda Rhimes.

SeriesFest’s CEO, Randi Kleiner, sat down with the daughter of Jan Marino, the critically-acclaimed author and inspiration for the Jan Marino Scholarship, Betsy Leighton, to discuss the challenges women over 50 face when launching a career in TV and screenwriting and how her mother’s legacy is helping to change that.
