Satirical coming-of-age comedy
After her parents discover hidden teen magazines, 15-year-old Katherine is sent to Christ Almighty Boarding Academy, where she navigates mean girls, identity, and backward-masking hysteria at the conservative Christian high school.
With a small circle of equally confused classmates, Katherine survives freshman year at a school fixated on purity, obedience, and no-dancing proms called “banquets.”
Series Synopsis
Christ Almighty Boarding Academy is your typical high school, if “typical” includes a strict no-touching policy, backward-masking seminars, and lectures on the occult symbolism of Doritos. Disguised as a conservative Christian boarding school, Christ Almighty functions as a reformatory for “wayward” teens sent away to be corrected, purified, and saved from themselves.
Season One begins when 15-year-old Katherine is caught with contraband teen magazines, prompting her parents to stage a well-meaning but disastrous “intervention” that ends with her being sent to Christ Almighty. Katherine is inquisitive, kind, and deeply confused. She wants to experience the secular world — friendships, crushes, independence — without breaking the rules she’s been taught to follow.
At Christ Almighty, students are taught to distrust their own understanding and instead look for signs. Katherine takes this seriously. She even uses her Bible like a Christian crystal ball. When a gust of wind flips a school pamphlet to a photo of Chad, a handsome, devout praise leader who could only be described as “sexy Jesus”, Katherine takes it as confirmation. At Christ Almighty, signs are everything.
Katherine’s anchor becomes her roommate Heidi, an off-the-grid homeschooler raised in a Christian commune, complete with cotton bloomers, anatomy charts, horse books, and an unshakable confidence in her own awkwardness. Heidi believes she has been sent to Christ Almighty to find a husband. Together, they form a small circle of equally confused classmates, navigating freshman year, purity rules, and the exhausting task of interpreting the system correctly.
After she explores to far for her own comfort, Katherine becomes increasingly invested in appearing pure and morally correct, she starts prioritizing safety and approval over honesty. At the same time, Heidi begins questioning the rules and exploring her own sexuality, creating a rift the school is quick to exploit. When Katherine chooses institutional acceptance over loyalty, the decision leaves her isolated and uneasy. She’s technically righteous yet emotionally alone.
When Heidi faces public punishment, Katherine is forced to confront the central contradiction of Christ Almighty: a system that demands moral certainty from children still figuring out who they are. Their reconciliation is messy, earned, and rooted not in doctrine, but in friendship.
Drawing from real experiences inside Christian boarding schools, CHRIST ALMIGHTY! is a satirical coming-of-age comedy about adolescence inside rigid moral systems where free will is conditional, signs are misread, and growing up means learning when to trust your own mind.
